Amoxicillin is an antibiotic, not a pain killer. It is likely that it was given to kill the infection that caused the problem to begin with. The pus will drain out and with it the swelling should also go away. The pain will go away with the puss, pressure and swelling. It is unlikely that, because of the infection, a pain medication would have done much anyway. Nums-it would probably help more than anythig if needed and it's an over-the-counter medication.

2 to 3 days

It takes a few days for the infection to be reduced.
