How to answer a case study in the MBA exam?

This is a tip by my professor. Always read the questions 1st and then the whole case. The idea behind this is that when you read the questions first you come to know what exactly you have to look for in the case. It makes finding answers easier. You can even mark the important points while reading. This saves a lot of time.

How to write an answer to a case study?

See to it that your answers are in your own words and not just directly copied from the case word to word...

Include examples as much as possible , but make sure its related to the topic.

Any examination is intended to Test three aspects of the subject - Memory, Understanding and Application.

1) Memory - Through with the principles and concepts. Be aware of the key words and findings/theories proposed by great scholars. For instance, Porters 5 Force Model - be clear about the model.

2) Understanding - Read the case thoroughly, list the key problems on a rough paper. Map the concepts (memory) to the given case. Try to interpret the concept with the back-ground of the given case

3) Application - Now present the solution based on the theory & interpretation. Application is the bye product of memory and understanding... It is the art of presenting one's understanding. Unless you practice more and more, you can't have it.

Memory and Understanding can be taught to some extent, however application is the internal aspect of learning - it is from one's own heart and brain. Hence can't be taught in reality though some tips as to presentation may be given on case to case basis

The best way to solve a MBA case study is to follow the information presented in the course. Generally, the case will cover what was covered during the session.
