A good book that probably will answer your questions is Woodstove Cookery:At Home on the Range by Jane Cooper. It tells you how to find, set up, fuel, take care of , cleaning and how to cook on it. The book includes recipies from soups to breads and everything in between.

∙ 12y agoThere are many factors to consider when installing a wooden stove. The first step when installing is to look out for the one that suits your requirements. Some wood stoves are customized for your fireplace and are generally easier to install than the freestanding wood stove. Once the stove has been finalised, next would be the location of where exactly to place it. Finally, assemble a six-inch pipe to pass through the flue. The measurement of the flue should be 12 x 12 inches. For the outside portion, you need to install a chimney liner with cap. Insulated chimney pipes should be used and you should have excess for your ceiling.

∙ 13y agoA first step will be to see if a permit is required where you live- some places require them.
Next, if you have a NEW stove- READ the instructions. If you have a USED stove, check the condition- firebrick intact, unwarped doors, intact door gaskets, no missing parts or bolts.
Consider where the stove will be placed, clearance from combustible surfaces (not just the sides, but top and bottom) and what type of chimney it will connect to.

Finally- buy a fire extinguisher, and have plans to get your chimney cleaned.

As kindling lights, add small wood, then larger wood. Partially close draft to regulate fire once it is burning. Gasoline or kerosene should not be used as a fire starter,
