How to change a heater core on a 1998 Grand am?

Actually extremely easy as it comes to modern day heater cores. Auto shops will tell you it calls for over 7 hours of labor and will cost you hundreds read on and i will show you how to do it yourself if you are at least slightly vehicle savvy.First and foremost drain your engine coolant, raise the vehicle and support on jackstands. disconnect both heater hoses from the heater core (between the rear of transmission and subframe) and the 2 10mm bolts that both through to the heater box inside. this is all that is required under the car. Next go back inside the car and remove both left and right sound insulators (black covers under your feet) and remove the center counsel where the shifter is. you will find 4 bolts in the center counsel as well as a horseshoe clip that must be removed to lift the shifter off with the console. next you will find 2 7mm bolts holding the floor heat vent to the heater core cover remove them and the floor vent. Then there are several 5.5mm bolts holding the heater core cover to the air box. remove all gold 5.5 mm bolts and you should be able to pry down on the box and jiggle it a little and WHALAA there is your heater core! Next there are 2 straps holding the core that are also 5.5 mm bolts remove those and the core it does take a little wiggling around but comes out fairly easy. this job litteraly would take even a novice at most probably 2 hours maybe 3.
