In most cars, you jack it up, remove the pan carefully so the fluid can drain out into a tray. Then you pull off the filter and fit the new one following instructions in the filter box. Now clean the mating surfaces on trans and on pan, fit gasket if needed ( they don't all have a separate gasket) -Then refit the pan placing all bolts in finger tight before fully tightening any. Tighten at each side alternately so you get it even. If you know torque figures, now is the time to use a torque wrench. -Otherwise, hand tight with a 6 inch ratchet is good. I go over all of the bolts again to make even tightness. Now fill with new fluid, approximately the amount of fluid you drained. Now drive the car about 4-5 miles and measure fluid again, top up if necessary.
