The best way to charge a battery from an AC source is to use a high-quality commercial battery charger that is of the correct voltage and charging profile for your battery. By "charging profile," I mean a charger that is matched to the battery's chemistry and amp-hour capacity. WARNING: Not every type of battery is rechargeable, and even rechargeable batteries can do nasty things if they are not charged properly. If you are not sure you have the right charger, please ask someone for help.

If you want to make your own charger, the answer to "how" depends upon the AC source, the kind of battery, and how "good" a charger you want to make.

At a minimum, you need some kind of rectification of your AC power. Your battery will tend to discharge during the part of the cycle where it is not reverse-biased, so you will need something like a diode to make sure the battery can't drain itself back into the charging circuit. Cheap chargers for car batteries, for example, are sometimes nothing more than a transformer (to convert the mains voltage down to something suitable for the battery) and a rectifier (two or four diodes).

More sophisticated charger circuits are used to maximize battery life (heat from recharging can damage batteries, so charging circuits use various strategies to control the heat) and to provide the appropriate charging profile for the battery chemistry. You'll see a pretty dramatic shortening of the life of your batteries if you don't use a specialized circuit to charge some kinds of batteries. For this reason, you may want to use a commercial charger. If you really want to build a charger, try to get a kit or build from a known-good circuit.

What is the Working of online ups?

Online UPS on the other hand uses an Inverter which always on to give sine wave AC in the output socket. The incoming AC is first converted into DC by a transformer to charge the battery as well as to give power to the inverter transformer. The inverter transformer converts the DC to AC continuously to power the load. If power fails, the battery backup circuit switches on and takes the load. Online UPS is more efficient than the Offline UPS and uses a "Constant duty Inverter". It also has a "Static bypass" system that transfers the load to the AC power if the inverter system fails. The advantage of the Online UPS is that, it clean up the AC waveform by converting it into DC then reconverting this DC to fresh AC.

Why dc output voltage of a bridge rectifier varies with the load current?

aA A: the output of a Bridger's rectifier will always follows proportionally to the load since it does not regulate the output it merely transform AC TO DC '

What are the applications of rectifiers in use?

A bridge rectifier, is a group of rectifiers (4 in a single phase) wired so that each half of an AC current is passed to respective positive and negative lines of a DC output. It provides full wave rectification of AC into DC.

Why a DC motor is called DC motor?

DC, in DC motor, is an acronym for Direct Current, which means that it works on direct electrical supply by a battery. In an AC motor, the motor runs on Alternating Current Supply from other sources other than batteries, such as electricity from your house. No, d.c. is not an acronym. It is simply an abbreviation."a word formed from the initial letters or syllables taken from a group of words"http://www.thefreedictionary.com/acronymYes, a word. "dc" is not a word.

An alkaline battery's output is DC as is any battery.

Current in cars ac or DC?

The Current in a automobile is DC, you have a battery which is dc, and your alternator produces ac current but converts it to DC inside the alternator unit which gives your battery DC power. So basically everything in your car is DC.

Will a 120 volt AC to 12 volt AC adapter charge a 12 volt car battery?

No, the battery is DC not AC.

What does AC-DC conversion and battery charging mean?

The voltage in your house is AC. It is in the form of a sine wave that goes positive and negative 60 times a second. To charge a battery you need DC so you do an AC to DC conversion and then apply the DC to the battery charging circuit that applies the correct charging current to the battery and checks on the state of the charge.

Can we charge a phone with dc current?

Your mobile phone charger already have ac to dc converter , as ac supply can't stored. and you can charge directly with dc supply by maintaing volage of battery and dc source.

Can you charge battery from ac?

No, it must be charged with a battery charger plugged into 120 volts AC which converts it to 12 volts DC.

Will a 120 volt AC to 12 volt AC adapter charge a car battery?

No, auto batteries are DC not AC.

Introduction of DC to ac inverter?

A DC to AC inverter takes a DC voltage input to a AC voltage output. So if you have a 12v battery and need to run a 120v AC tool or something. All you need to do is plug a inverter to your battery and plug your 120v tool the the inverter. Takes all there is too it.

Will a dc to dc charger charges a battery bank faster than an ac to dc charger?

No. The speed at which the charger will charge the battery is determined by how many amps the charger outputs.

How is alternative current prodused in a battery?

A battery by itself will only supply DC output. You would need a method to convert DC to AC, such as an inverter, in simplified terms: an electronic circuit which has an oscillator to create the desired frequency then amplifies it to the desired magnitude output. Another way, which I don't know if used anymore, is a motor-generator set. A DC motor's shaft is connected to an AC generator's shaft, and the output is taken from the AC generator.

What will happen if lead acid battery is charged with ac power?

It will more than likely explode. You charge the battery with a charger that coverts 120V AC to 12V DC.
