How to cure Chapped and peeling lips?

Answer:
Vaseline or Chapstick

I checked with a number of forums a few months ago about peeling lips. The main ideas I got from them were to avoid petroleum products, avoid lanolin and avoid menthol. Many people recommended Carmex, but it is carried with a petroleum base as are Aquaphor, Blistex, ChapStick, Dr. Dan's and Vaseline. Considering you 'eat' whatever you put on your lips, I know I do not want to eat petroleum plus I know that petroleum jelly is really bad for your skin.

Then I remembered what I learned a few years ago about peeling cuticles: do NOT peel the skin or it will become tough and hard. You have to cut the cuticle off with a scissors and then use lotion to keep them soft.

Applying this idea to my lips, I started using a small cuticle scissors to cut the skin off my lips where it wanted to peel off. Then I covered my lips with Aveda Lip Saver which has these ingredients: Anise oil, Beeswax, Brazilian carnauba wax, Cinnamon leaf, Clove oil, Sunflower oil, Vitamin E. I did not use any lipstick - even on date night - and only used the lip saver. My thinking was to use one product at a time to see which one worked the best.

Well, I did not have to try any other products. The combination of cutting off the dry skin and using the lip saver took care of the problem within 8 weeks. I have had this problem for years so I am thrilled to have it under control within 8 weeks! I am even starting to use lipstick again on a limited basis. The lipsticks I have are either Lancome or Clinique, though in the future I will probably stick with Aveda colors since the lip saver worked so well for me.

I do think that cutting off the skin is really the key to my success. Plus trying to remember not to lick my lips. I have realized when I want to lick my lips, I need to reapply the lipsaver. Give it a try yourself and I hope you have the same success I have had!
