All I needed was a USB cable that will fit into the DV outlet on the camera. The camera came with a USB cable that fits into the outlet labeled TO PC, but this only works with PCs, not Macs, so I needed to buy a USB cable that fit into the outlet labeled DV. Then, it worked like a dream. I'm using a Panasonic Palmcorder miniDV Web Camera, Model No PV-DV2020D.

After connecting your camera to your mac (refer to help if required), open iMovie then click on file>import from camera (Apple+i). On the list box down the bottom of the import window, select your device. From here it is pretty simple, just do what it says to on the screen.
