I have done this. The floor drain for a toilet is round making it difficult to cut, but a professional tiler can cut a curve or circle into a tile using a tile saw and grinder.

  1. Mark the tiles circle or curve.
  2. Cut straight notches into the tile about a 1/4 inch apart to the part that doesn't go on the floor.
  3. Use a grinder with a diamond blade to smooth out the circle. This may take a few settings.
  4. Then set the tile.

How to Prevent Basement Flooding?

A flooded basement can be a headache for many homeowners and individuals, causing thousands of dollars in damage. Luckily, there are several simple tips that can help prevent flooding in a basement. Make sure that a basement has a central drain installed, with the floors sloped towards the central drain. If a basement is below a septic line, it's possible to install a sump pump to push water to a higher elevation. In some areas, it may be possible to vent a basement drain outside of a home. Make sure to check local laws and regulations before installing a drain pipe outside a home.

My washer and dryer are currently in my basement and I would like to install it on the main floor but don't know how to install the pipes for the drain to still go into the basement drain?

Without knowing the layout or type of drain pipe and location, it is impossible to give a good answer. Drill a hole in the floor and run the drain with PVC. Drains should fall 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch for every foot of distance. Horizontal distance. There may be a drain line that is closer to the first floor location that you can tap into. Washer drain does not need a vent, it gets it's venting around the washer hose.

Why does your basement floor have a hole filled with gravel?

This could be an old floor drain. Check to see if you have another floor drain in a different part of the basement. ...It's not a drain. That is a rough-in or prepared area to install a bathtub or shower. It is normanlly a squared off hole near some other PVC pipe stubs sticking up for toilet and sink connections.

Do you need a drain in the basement in order to install a home water softener in the basement?

Depends upon the plumbing code in your area.... A traditional ion-exchange water softener does need a "drain line". Typically 10-50 gallons of water are sent to the drain during each regeneration . Depending upon the local plumbing codes this drain could be: - a floor drain - a deep-sink drain (wash basin) - plumed directly into the household sewer drain (typically this installation uses a device called an air-gap)
