How to make a glass scratch-less?

Answer

Sorry, that is one problem that plagues many of us with glass coffee tables and end tables or any table that is glass. Small scratches (that are very fine) can sometimes be taken out by applying white toothpaste and rubbing in and cleaning off with a warm rag. For deeper scratches the table is considered ruined.

I own a smoked-colored coffee table and two end tables. We are fairly social people so it's evident we would have scratches on especially the coffee table (even though I use coasters) and I can't afford to replace the glass (4 bevelled edge .. Italian glass) so I got a grand idea and went to
'Pier 1 Imports' (an American company and also in Canada) and went over to where their place mats were. I found a 'runner' for a table in a deep chocolate brown with a hint of copper in it. I cut it to size (went to the craft shop and got fraying glue to keep the mat from fraying) and it looks very eloquent and I've had many compliments on it. I also did this with the end tables and left about 2 inches all around each table to see the glass, but the rest was covered in the matting. Don't throw the table out or go to the expense of new glass ... get those mats!
