To Remove the Radio in your 2005 Jeep wrangler:
(Removal should be similar from 97-2006)
1. Disconnect negative battery cable and wrap it in a shop towel so it does not come in contact with the positive battery cable.
2. Pry up the upper most dashboard cover, starting from the passenger side and working towards the driver's side. There are four clips holding this piece in. This is the piece that has the defrost vent in it.
3. Now that you removed that cover, there are two Phillips head screws holding the center bezel on. They are located directly center of the dash on top. You cannot miss them.
4. OK, you removed those screws. The rest of the center bezel is snap fitted to the dash structure. Pry out gently with your fingers. The clip locations are...two next to the radio on each side and two at the bottom corners of this piece.
5. Remove the four Phillips head screws at the front of the radio.
6. Remove your glove box. This is achieved by opening it, removing the strap on the passenger side of said glove box, tilting it at a 45 degree angle and pulling towards the rear of the Jeep. ( If you have a right hand drive Jeep and your antenna is located on the driver side, you must remove panel under steering wheel instead. Unscrew the two Phillips head screws and pry it out of the top clips under steering wheel and it comes right off.)
7. Disconnect the antenna lead behind the glove box. This is the foam wrapped cable running from the radio to the passenger side of the vehicle. (Runs over steering column in a right hand drive vehicle)
8. Snake your arm up above the air duct underneath the dashboard towards the radio. You will feel a bolt on the back of the radio. Take a 10mm socket and your favorite rachet tool and remove this bolt. (On Right hand drive, use the panel under the steering wheel to snake your arm through; Bolt is on the right side of radio looking from the front)
9. Now pull the radio out of the dashboard. Don't worry, there is enough slack in the wiring harness for you to comfortably get your hand behind the unit and disconnect.
Installation is the reverse of removal. Do not forget to hook the antenna lead back up and your negative battery cable as well. My radio forgot the time but remembered my preset stations. Your experience may vary.
I used the dash-install kit for the Jeep Grand Cherokee I bought from Walmart even though Wrangler wasn't listed and this worked fine.
The 2005 Jeep Wrangler has 16 valves.
