The 2007 VW Passat has an air filter located at the top of the motor. You know, the fancy plastic thingy hiding that beautiful German powerhouse! It's SUPER easy to get to... (well, kinda...) You will need 3 pieces of equipment. 1. Right hand
2. Left hand
3. Standard screwdriver TIP: Make sure the engine is off and COLD!!! Start out by removing all hoses and disconnecting any electrical wires connected to the top plastic housing. (This is where the screwdriver comes in) The process is very simple. What keeps the plastic housing on is 4 tension points. You must pull on them (snaps out) carefully to avoid cracking the plastic housing. I recommend pulling on the top left (as you are facing the engine bay) and then the lower right, top right and then the lower left. If this is the first time you've ever taken the plastic housing off, it can be quite a chore. Understand that there are no bolts or other fasteners holding it down except for 4 Snap-out tension points located one on each of the 4 corners. If you use a flashlight and look on the underside, you can see them. You must pull up (sometimes very briskly) on them. Be careful, if you pull or yank too hard you can crack the housing and I'm sure replacements are not on the $1 menu at the local Mickey D's! Once you've taken it off, flip it upside-down to reveal the housing for the air filter (it is inside the plastic cover you just took off.) Remove the plate cover, replace the filter and then replace the plastic filter cover. When placing the plastic cover back on your engine, ensure that you are aligning the 4 tension points correctly. Again, if this is the first time you've taken this cover off, the points will be a bit hesitant to go back on. Be determined my fellow DIY'er, for it is not an insurmountable task! Grab a cup of Joe and some elbow-grease and 'snap' it back on. I had to use some body-weight to put them on. I recommend replacing the points as you took them off. Top left, bottom right, top right and finally the bottom right... Congrats, you have completed an air-filter change-a-roo on your Vee Dub! Hope this helps! -Xaq
