Best Answer

We pick most of our peaches just prior to fully ripening (due to our gardener not always being available to pick them at peak ripeness.) After picking we put them in a brown paper sack to ripen. In a couple of days they are perfect and fully sweet! Do not wash fruit before bagging it.

take a cotton towel, lay it flat.then add peaches, stem side down. make sure fruit is not touching. cover with another to seal out the light. Make sure there cotton,or paper towels will work if you don't have a lot. works on nectarines too. Takes a few days to a week, depending on size

Why are many peaches found in stores today hard or pulpy not consistently sweet and juicy like they were when you were a kid?

Peaches are picked before they are ripe for best shipping results. As with all stone fruit, peaches will ripen after picking and should be allowed to ripen after purchase. Ready to eat peaches would not survive the long distances traveled to stores without being so bruised as to be inedible upon reaching their destination.
