Reduce, Reuse ,Recycle

Reduce- Motor vehicles are a major cause of air pollution. They emit much exhaust fumes. In big cities this pollution has reached levels that pose a threat to the health of the city dwellers. Some cities have already advised their residents to wear gas masks when they venture onto the streets. The only way to reduce this pollution is obviously to reduce the number of vehicles on the roads. This is easier said than done for very few people would want to sacrifice the convenience of having ones own transport.

Recycle- , recycling trash by arrangement and reuse items like newspaper, magazines and cardboard can be recycled to make new paper products. Plastic bags and plastic water or soda bottles can be recycled and made into a cloth like products such as tote bags and even shirts

The individual citizen has some control over what he puts into the water, either through the sewers or directly into the watercourses, and how much water he uses.

Control of contaminants discharges

To sanitary sewers:

People flush all manner of chemicals into the sanitary system including waste pharmaceuticals and chemicals . These are not removed at the sewage treatment plant and pass on to the receiving stream.

Take all pharmaceuticals back to the pharmacy for proper disposal. Take chemicals to a proper community disposal collection site. If your community does not have this arangement get a group to start one.

To Storm Sewers

Do not drain motor oil, solvents, car washing detergent or pesticides to the street where they can reach the storm sewers and thus the streams.

Fix leaks of oil or antifreeze from your car to prevent the fluid from reaching storm drains.

Pick up after your dog. Animal feces are the same as human's. Keep them out of storm drains.

Direct discharges

On a boat or at a marina do not throw trash in the water. Do not discharge sewage, fuel or chemicals to the water.

Control of volume dischargesOff load the sewage treatment system by reducing water use. Use a low volume toilet. Optimize loads in washing machines and dishwashers. Don't just run taps "to get the water cold".

you can stop water pollution by reducing your trash and by disposing it properly not in the bodies of water. also... How can water pollution be prevented says:

There are many things that we can do individually to prevent water pollution. Given below are a few ways to prevent water pollution:

· Toxic products like paints, automobile oil, polishes, and cleaning products should be stored and disposed off properly.

· Refrain from throwing litter into streams, lakes, rivers, or seas. If you do spot litter on beaches or in water systems, after ascertaining that it is safe, collect them and dispose off them in any nearby waste disposal system.

· Try using natural fertilizers and pesticides as far as possible, or if not, do not overuse them or over-water gardens and lawns.

· Also, actively conserve water by turning the tap off when you do not need running water, such as while brushing teeth. Apart from preventing water shortages, it lessens the amount of water that needs to be treated.

:... to reduce water pollution

An abyss of s can arise to this question. There are many ways we can reduce water pollution. Too list a few:

· educate and inform the population of the world to what pollution is and how to control and contain any and all spills,

· demand from our governmental leaders harsher penalties when pollution occurs,

· petition governments to start enforcing the laws already in place, (laws are not enforced 100 % : i would reason that 1/2 of spills or pollution is not accounted for because of politics, laziness, and a lack of people in the workforce to enforce these laws. These are key reasons why so much pollution is still tolerated.) The US coast Guard does not have enough manpower to have full blown environmental police dedicated to charging people with violations. There is a need for environmental police and no one to fill it. When was the last time you heard of anyone getting a ticket for littering, or spilling oil over the side of their boat? I bet you can not name that many.

· Finally, citizens need to be proactive in reporting all spills even if it is a teaspoon of a harmful substance, whether it is theirself or another party involved.

The US Federal Government requires that the National Response Center (1-800-424-8802) be notified by the responsible party for the release or discharge of any oil, product or hazardous substance. Failure to notify or deliberately discharging can lead to criminal penalties.

Or a bystander can call it in.

Also note, citizens should petition that a finder's fee with a heavy reward fee be paid to the citizen that reported the spill if it is documented and investigated in accordance with governmental procedures ( i.e. US Coast Guard procedures should be followed when conducting a spill report to be eligible for the reward ). The citizens should petition for a higher penalty fee to allocate money towards the finder fee for reporting a pollution spill.

· Clean up nuclear waste and toxic chemical dumps so they don't leach into groundwater and eventually into rivers.

· Prohibit dumping toxic industrial chemicals into rivers and streams.

· Remove toxic sludge from river bottoms.

· Prohibit fertilizer, pesticide, and herbicide runoff.

· Don't use herbicides and pesticides in your garden.

· Compost kitchen waste instead of using the garbage disposal in your kitchen sink.

· Fix oil leaks in your car.

· Don't let car wash water run into the street.

·

Water remains one of our primary resources, vital to our survival on Earth, yet water pollution is happening. How can we avoid and possibly stop it? Ignorance is the main factor.

· Knowledge on ways of preventing water pollution and its effects on human health should be spread more widely.

· Tighter laws should be legislated and existing laws amended to curb illegal dumping of trash and poisonous chemical wastes into water sources.

· Waste materials must be disposed off properly.

· Daily household rubbish can be buried or thrown away neatly in plastic bags, to be sent to special rubbish collecting areas.

· Faeces have to be sent to treatment tanks.

· Industrial wastes should be treated before disposal, to make sure the substances are harmless.

· Stuff like glass, paper, plastic and metal can be recycled.

· Excess use of insecticides and chemical fertilizers should be avoided as far as possible.

River pollution is a result of a complex combination of processes that reduce overall river water quality.

* Acid rain,

* Industrial pollution

* Agricultural pollution contribute to river pollution

* Everyday activities that drain untreated pollutants and leachate into rivers and streams

* Transport: - where carbon and one-drop-at-a-time 'oil spills' can also cause pollution through storm run-off

== A holistic and integrative understanding of the cause-effect cycles of river pollution is an effective starting point to improve river water quality.Water pollution is a complex issue - from the source of polution to its impacts, both short-term and long-term on human and other species that depend on water. Point and non-point sources of pollution have a profound impact on the degree of pollution, and many times the actual causes are hidden behind more 'visible' causes. Understanding these causes-behind-causes is critical in developing appropriate responses to reduce pollution. Broad-based awareness of the sources and impacts of pollution - involving a number of stakeholders on the water continuum - is also important to effect lasting solutions. You can start by using green cleaners and fertilizers.

Water pollution can be lessened by simply picking up your trash when you are done with it. Also, you can start to use some of the boat engines that are more environmentally safe.

We can help stop polluting our drinking water by saving it, and using less. most of us just think, what's one person? but everyone makes the difference ! you can help simply by drinking the same water from an hour ago, instead of going to get better colder water, maybe you could get a couple of ice cubes... when you brush your teeth, instead of leaving the tap on, just turn it off while brushing. you may want to take shorter showers also. for every person who avoids 1 pound of meat, you save 2500-5000 gallons of water.

1) One of the simplest methods to reduce water pollution is to use less water and avoid unnecessary wastage. This will cause less water to get contaminated, ultimately causing lesser water pollution.

2) Using less artificial fertilizers and chemicals, and going in for organic farming will help in limiting water pollution, too.

3) Growing a lot of plants in your garden will ensure that the fertilizers and chemicals used are utilized there, and does not go into the nearby water bodies.

4) While going to seas, rivers, and lakes, taking the precaution of not throwing waste into them is all important. You may also like to clean up some of the litter there, which would make a small but sure difference.

We all can stop water pollution. We can use solar energy and can utilize waste product properly. we can also help to stop water pollution by tree plantation and by disposing of waste products properly.

I would not litter anywhere because it would probably end up in the ocean

That is easy. The quickest method is to stop dropping cars into our oceans.

Fortunately, this is a fairly rare issue out of all the real pollution issues we do face.

Ships dumping waste into our oceans is a far more real issue. Using Ocean water as coolant in old engines that leak oil is a far more real concern.

Pesticides running off of fields and ending up in our water is a real issue also. These pollutions can be stopped by regulating them and stopping those we don't have to have.
