One usually can't determine just by looking at a pit bull if another breed is mixed in. The only way to know for sure is to know the parents or have pure breed papers that come with a pure breed dog.
Go to a kennel club's website. Look at the breed standard for BC's. If a dog matches that description and has registered parents, it's purebred. Other dogs are purebred too but aren't registered. Then you can apply for PAL registration in the AKC.
You can buy a DNA test kit from Dog-DNA on the internet for $84. They will send you the kit, you swab the dog's cheek, and return the swab to Dog-DNA. They will perform a DNA test on the dog's cells which are adhering to the swab, and let you know the results.
