Climate is more associated with a region than with an entire planet. Consider the difference between the climate at earth's polar regions, and its climate in the tropics.
Overall, however, the global climate is a little bit warmer now than it was 50 years ago. In the 1960s primary energy generating facilities pumped a lot of particulate into the air, along with their CO2 emissions. This particulate had an overall short term cooling effect. As the particulate settled out and energy production methods were improved for cleaner air, the heat trapping effects of CO2 gradually became more preponderant.
Note, the change remains small, only a fraction of a degree overall. But the CO2 already liberated will continue having a warming effect even if we suddenly stopped all new emissions. The effect is similar to that of a blanket. You add a blanket on a cold night, you don't warm up immediately. It is expected to take decades for the earth to acclimate to current greenhouse gas concentrations.
hot places will have more cold fronts in the winter. Cold places will have more heat waves in the summer. eventually, maybe century's from now, desserts will become fertile. fertile areas will become desert. Everything will be the oppositeof what it is now. there will be much more coral bleaching going on, as the ocean temperature is expected to rise. maybe with all the new inventions being made to become green, by that time, we will actually be slowing down the process of global warming. hopefully. ::D
1-2 degrees Celsius
It has changed by getting warmer.
Was the weather like 50 years ago today
colder
Well, 50 years ago 14% of the earth was covered in rainforests - all around the equator. But 100 years ago it was not destroyed at all - it probably just completely covered the whole equator!
Spring is a 50/50 weather cool and warm at times.
Weather anomalies in the United States have increased as reported by the World Meteorological Organization. In May 2007, as many as 562 tornados touched down killing 41 persons. The previous monthly record was in June 1992 when 399 tornados touched down in the US territoryFor the record, yes, we do have more officially recordedtornadoes now than we used to have in the past. That is because our ability to detect tornado touchdowns has increased dramatically in the last 50 years. In a given year, hundreds of small tornadoes touch down, all over the country. 50 years ago, if a human wasn't around to observe such a small tornado touch down, it never officially happened, and therefore wasn't counted in the tornado total for that year.Tornadoes are not always the huge, black funnel clouds depicted in "Twister", doing billions of dollars in damage and killing dozens of people. There are 6 classes of tornado, F0 - F5, in increasing order of wind speed. F0, F1, and F2 tornadoes are small enough that, 50 years ago, most of them would never have been noticed. Only F3 - F5 tornadoes can be expected to have been consistently detected 50 years ago. And it turns out that, if you count only the F3 - F5 tornadoes, the current yearly average is actually SMALLER than 50 years ago.
In the USA, the air is much cleaner now - as anyone who was alive 40-50 years ago will tell you, especially around some of the bigger cities. This is due to several major environmental laws passed in the 1970's. Elsewhere in the world, particularly in the developing world and especially China and India, the air is much dirtier than it was 20 and 30 years ago. Some of the cheapest energy and manufacturing techniques are also the dirtiest. These countries are just now beginning to deal with their air pollution simply out of necessity. Poor air quality takes a tremendous toll on human health when it is so severe, and you can attach a monetary value to these damages.
CO2 is rising rapidly. It is at least 25 percent higher than it was 400,000 years ago. CO2 increases slightly in the spring and summer and decreases during the fall and winter months.
I would say the vital piece of equipment used today at Mount Everest that was not available 50 years ago is satalite and computers. Today this is used to get the latest weather forecast which helps with the planing of there climb.
The cast of 50 Years Ago Today - 2009 includes: Michael Yama
Because it is needed more today than 50 years ago
Similar to today's.
10-15mpg 50 years ago. However, 25 years ago, cars got 30+mpg quite easily....
50 years ago was 1960!!
the reason why it will be different is because 50 years ago they didn't have the source of equipment to reconstruct different material
it was 59999 for 50 years ago
Car, bus, plane, train, ship....... same as today.
Fifty years ago today was 18th December 1960. The US President then was Republican Dwight D. Eisenhower who left office in 1961.
Radio, television, newspaper...pretty much the same way as today.
50 years ago Pakistan was an Islamic republic.
