I wouldn't use the word insecure.

To address the question:

1) He mentioned his inferior status (Judges 6:15), which was actually humility, not insecurity.

2) He thought he would die (ibid, verse 22). This too, has an explanation other than insecurity.

3) He asked, twice, for a sign that God would be with him (ibid, verss 36-40).

4) God hinted that Gideon was afraid (Judges 7:10).

No where. He asked the LORD for signs and the LORD answered him but he was certainly not insecure, for the Lord chose him to rescue his people.
