Slave life was not harsh in Greece. Male slaves were assigned to married women to do their bidding. The slaves also had to accompany the woman when she wanted to go out of the house as stated in their law. The slaves, male and female, helped do the chores around the house including helping to teach the children, but this was mostly done by the mothers.#

Another View:

Most slaves were used for agriculture, fishing, trades and labouring. They lived a harsh life, were subject to the orders and whims of their masters with no excuses; the owner could punish, kill or sell them, as he pleased with no repercussions. Some men were in the mines, living a horrible life which eventually killed them. Women, as well as working domestically or on the farm or business, were used sexually or prostituted.

The only thing which tempered the owner was a desire to keep them in good working condition for as long as possible.

How would you describe slavery in ancient Greece?

Certainly it was not as enjoyable as freedom, but it was an alternative to death that some found preferable. Slavery was not practiced on a large scale in ancient Greece (except by those champions of freedom, the Spartans). The Romans were much more dependent on slave labor than the Greeks.
