Best Answer

Atticus does the bravest thing a man could possibly do - he stand up for what he beleives in but he never lets it turn into a fight. He raises his kids well and he always tries to impart kindness on others. He tries to defend an innocent man in a community where conviction was a certainty. Atticus does something very brave in the book. he shoots the mad dog!!!

Yes, Atticus Finch from "To Kill a Mockingbird" is considered a brave man. He demonstrates his bravery by defending Tom Robinson, a black man accused of raping a white woman, despite facing backlash and threats from the prejudiced community. Atticus remains steadfast in upholding his beliefs and principles in the face of adversity.

Atticus defines courage as tackling a responsibility even when you know you can't win. He thinks of Mrs. Henry Lafayette Dubose as being the most courageous person he knows because she beats her morphine addiction even though she is going to die anyway.

Of course, when Atticus is given the Tom Robinson case, he knows in advance that there is no way an Alabama jury in 1935 will take the word of a black man over a white woman, but he accepts the job and performs it with integrity. He doesn't under-represent his client, even though he knows that his own town will turn against him for doing the best job he can. A lesser man, a man with no courage, would have put in a half-hearted defense and preserved Maycomb's illusions about how blacks and whites typically behave.

Yes he is. He once said that true bravery wasn't when you held a gun in your hand. It was when you did the right thing even when you knew you were going to lose.
