How was the peace and freedom party developed?

The United States was involved in a bloody slaughter in Southeast Asia, mainly Vietnam. Freedom rides were going to the south in attempts to register black Americans to vote. The environmental movement was just getting started and farm workers were trying to organize a union which was supported by a national boycott. People involved in these various movements came together in 1967 to form Peace and Freedom Party. The feeling was that neither the Democratic or Republican parties were going to do anything to bring the troops home or end discrimination against people of color. On June 23, 1967, as President Johnson was giving a speech at Century City in Los Angeles, thousands of white middle class people, men, women and children were in the streets calling for an end to the Vietnam Conflict. The TV cameras were running as the police charged into the crowd and started beating people. It is the first known day when people registered Peace and Freedom Party.
