it was totally unfair! the blacks sat at the back of the bus while the whites had their own section at the front. if a white person had no seat a black person had to give up theirs for the whit person. So sad!

The buses were segregated: black people had to sit at the back of the bus while white people sat in 'whites only' seas. If the bus was crowded and a white person had nowhere to sit, a black person would be told to give up their seat. You would not see a white person sitting next to a black person. (Rosa Parks was asked to give up her seat but she refused and was arrested. This is one of the things that started protests abainst segregation.)

I guessing you are asking about the time around Martin Luther King Jr... African Americans were mistreated everywhere, from restaurants to bathrooms to buses. The rules for African Americans on buses, from what I remember from school, were that they had to sit in the back of the bus, and if a white person wanted their seat, they would have to stand for the rest of the bus ride, or they would have to get off the bus. A few people, such as the famous Rosa Parks refused to give up their seats to white people and were, in turn, imprisoned. Rosa Parks action started the Bus Boycott, were many people refused to ride buses until the buses changed their rules. After a while, the bus companies gave in and African Americans partially received their rights on buses. Not long after Martin Luther King Jr. fought with many people to finally change the discrimination.
