If he had brought a bathroom scale along with him, he could simply step on it

and observe his weight in the new gravitational environment. If his cargo had

not included that item, he would have to cobble together some other sort of

apparatus, from the various devices and subsystems that had been loaded

in anticipation of the requirements of his scientific mission.

However he accomplished the measurement, he would observe that his weight

on or near the surface of the giant planet is now about 265 pounds, which would

explain his inability to perform the experiment as gingerly as he might desire.
