How would one fix a trunk on a 1989 Buick Riviera that does not retract into the fully closed position?

[Edit]

I repair most all of my trunk pull-downs. My Riv was especially annoying. If the motor does not run when you push down on the small lever to right, it is best to remove the entire screw-down assembly and examine the connector. Often the issue is with the \"limit switch\" that is actuated by the pull-down action.
