Make sure you have (or can get easily) these requirements.

FOOD

Whether it's plants or animals, food is a necessity. Make sure you cook your food thoroughly and never, NEVER!!! eat anything unless you are positive that you know what it is.

WATER

You can only go without water for 3-4 days. Don't drink any water without sanitizing it first. You never know what could be in the water. The easiest way is to boil it. You can also use special chemicals but is a survival situation you may not have these.

SHELTER

In the rain forest, there are many creepy crawlies that wander the forest, many in which are poisonous. The best thing to do is to build a shelter off the ground. A platform on legs (like a large table) works very well. Also, it rains a lot so you want some kind o protection.

FIRE

Though it's not a necessity, a fire is usually very good to have. You can use it to: keep warm, cook things, boil water, scare off wild animals, and much more.

stick to your chosen direction-use a process known as dead-reckoning. Chose something far away and walk to it. Then, choose another object in the same direction and walk to it, etc.

Check out the terrain-if the ground slopes down then there is water

If you find two streams, follow them. Two streams, bigger stream, river. RIVER=CIVILISATION

signalling-send SOS by fire. Lots of green leaves and branches make black smoke. Pilots are trained to look out for black smoke. Never make a normal fire because then the smoke that punctures the canopy looks like a tribe is living there. Lots of black smoke = rescue. Also, in the pitch black you can use a glow-stick.
