i had some fluid leak at 32 weeks and went to hospital. the doc said my cervix was long and soft. a soft cervix does not mean labour is on the way, sorry to disappoint!! i am now 35 weeks and baby still in there! unfortunately all labours vary, some women can dilate very quickly and others could take over a week! with my first (this is my second) i had no symptoms on the day, by late night i had some backache, after an hour of Back pain i was taken to hospital and told i was fully dilated! i was 37 weeks. my friend was 1cm dilated for 3 days and her entire labour lasted over a week, dilating slowly and painfully everyday or so. with my second baby tho, the head descended quite painfully at 30 weeks and i have been 3/5 engaged since then with a soft and long cervix. this means the cervix is thick - no sign of labour or dilation. walking definitely helps baby move down and ease your labour pains as well as occupy you in labour. sex is also a great way to help baby descend further, the semen ripens the cervix and helps dilation and your own orgasm helps encourage baby to move down. Castor oil is meant to help but can give you the runs and may pass through the placenta so imagine what it does to baby. in my opinion, curry, pineapple and raspberry tea are old wives tails!!

With my last baby I was 3cm and 50% effaced for over a week, had my membranes stripped and my water broke 3 days later with no contractions. I had to be induced. He was my second. With my first one I was already 5 cm and 100% effaced about 15 minutes after I felt my first contraction. I was probably walking around dilating for weeks. You never know...they come when they are good and ready. I am 34 wks pregnant again and definitely will not try to rush it like I did the last time. (12 hr labor as opposed to 2 hrs with my first one that came when he was ready.)

If your baby is in your birth canal, you have been in labor for a while, and will soon give birth. The baby descends into the birth canal during the second stage of labor, which includes dilation from 7 to 10 cm and pushing the baby out. If you have been having contractions that got longer and more pronounced for the last few hours, and if you feel the urge to push, you should dial 911 and have the operator assist you while you wait for the ambulance.

If you mean that the baby has "dropped", meaning she has descended lower in the uterus, but you have not been experiencing any contractions, then you are not yet in labor. While the baby "dropping" or "engaging" means that you are getting close, there is really no way to predict how soon you will go into labor.

No doctor, midwife, doula, or psychic out there can predict with certainty when the labor will start. 36 weeks and 5 days is still a little early, the average pregnancy lasts 40 weeks. Even though you may be tired of being pregnant, or really excited to meet your new baby, try your best to relax and let the nature run its course. Enjoy the last few days before you have to start changing diapers and pacify a fussy baby! Hope you have a wonderful labor!

I was 36 weeks, 3 cm and about 70% effaced, I did not go into labor until the exact day I hit 39 weeks. I kept thinking, any minute now, but I ended up sitting around for 3 weeks at 3 cm or more dilated, it drove me crazy with the waiting. When she finally did decide to come wow did she come fast, I barely made it to the hospital in time.

First of all, your baby is not ready to come out at 36 weeks and you should not be thinking about giving birth yet. Your baby is not considered "full term" until 37 weeks, but even at 37 weeks, the chance of him/her ending up in the NICU from respiratory distress is quite high.

The lungs are the last thing to develop in newborns and so it is important to wait until at least 38-39 weeks to give birth, if you have a choice.

Most women will be disappointed to know that being dilated 1-2cm is not an indicator that labor will begin soon. You can walk around for many weeks like this, in fact.

your dilation can take as long as 2weeks or 2days depends on how active you are.

I am 32 weeks pregnant and my Cervix is Inflamed what does this mean is this normal in a pregnancy close to the end or does this mean that the babys is closer then we think?

It's normal. I'm 34 weeks along and mine is too. It's just from the pressure of the baby on your cervix. No worry's though , .. Doesn't mean the baby's coming or anything.
