I am a gay female who can only stay interested in subjects like ballet cooking interior decorating if a male is doing it on t.v. Why only males?

Your saying this is very normal. Many lesbians (and gay men) will feel more comfortable to be watching tv shows (cooking, interiors etc) being done by the opposite sex.

Some think that this is because they sub-conciously want a break from seeing their gender most of the time. Whether or not the theory is true, can not be clarified.

This is really a good question that could relate to not only your situation, but probably others. I am a gay male, I find myself liking to watch female actresses, or female Cooking Shows, or even listen to female artist sing more than the male. Thinking of the fact that I am a gay male, I would be interested in more of the male versions.

I don't know if it's the fact that I can usually feel more connected with woman, or what, but it may be the same with you. You can feel a connection with a male much more easily and watching male dancers, or cooking, or even decorating may give you a sense of comfort.

I do watch men do these things on occasion, but my preference is women, so it is a good question to ponder. I doubt that we two are the only ones that feel this way. I really believe it has more to do with the group that we can relate to more readily than anything else.

I'm not sure, but think of it this way: there's a difference between liking someone sexually and being comfortable just casually watching it. In fact, a large part of sexuality comes not just from who you are attracted to, but who you are NOT attracted to- for example, you probably notice that "out" gay men will tend to hang around with lots of females.

Personally, I'm a gay male and most of my friends are either gay males or females, this may just be becauae im more like them and i can relate to them. I dont get along well with straight men as much as I do with gay men and women.
