In a community property state, the assets, and debts, of one are those of the other too.

(Unless there are some very hard to meet things done, from the very start of the marriage, to keep certain things sole & separate. That would mean you didn't benefit at all from what was done with the debt 9it didn't get used to buy you food, shelter, car, etc), or have benefit of an asset).
