Check the audio cable to make sure it is connected correctly and securely. It also might be that the TV does not have a sound bar so a surround sound system needs to be purchased though that is doubtful.

If you are not getting any sound at all, then your sound device is likely configured wrong, you can access it through the control panel. If it is just DVD's that dont play sound then the problem is probably with windows media player. Try downloading VLC media player and play the DVD with that.
