I have bad self esteem what can you do to feel better? |
[Edit] |
Here are some ideas--not knowing how old you are or what your circumstances are. Maybe they will suggest something to you.
- Volunteer your services where they are really needed and appreciated (old folks, animal rescue, special-needs populations, hospital)
- Learn to do something that isn't easy (play an instrument, do a craft, become good at a sport, try for a part in a play)
- Set a goal (make something, build something, master something, set a personal-best record, fix something, earn something, learn something) and work to achieve it
- Join a team with a purpose (promote a candidate, carry out a clean-up task, deliver a needed service, solve a problem) and devote your energy and talents to the team's goal
All these ideas involve some kind of work, and that is not an accident. Working is the best way to accomplish something that has meaning and gives you pride in yourself. What's to be proud of in sitting around like a slug? Self-indulgence and self-esteem are kind of opposites. If one turns out not to feel so good, like a diet of sweets and snacks, it's high time to try the other: nutrition for your spirit.
A bonus when you do something as part of a group is that you put yourself among people who care about the task or goal. And people who work together toward a common goal also care about each other. That's good for self-esteem too.
A bonus when you tackle something all on your own is that you can do it your way, and you don't have to share the credit with anybody else. There are lots of how-to books and websites and even classes to help you get started.
