I had a similar problem with my Nikon coolpix s550. very simple fix really... the card was originally formatted as FAT32. What i had to do is format it as ntfs then when i inserted it into the phone it asked me if i wanted to format it. i clicked yes and voila I'm good to go. but just remember to copy your sh*t off the card then you can re-transfer it back once its ready to go

The Nikon CoolPix takes SD or SDHC cards. The largest right now (August 2009) are 32 Gb cards though it appears that Toshiba are launching 64 Gb SDXC cards soon and 128 Gb and on up to 2 Tb cards are planned for 2011.
I always go to Target or Best Buy for my memory cards. They have several brands that are compatible with most cameras and they are all reasonably priced. If you are not in a hurry I would go online to Amazon.

You just have to press it in gently, and the memory card will pop out a bit. Just enough to pull it out.
