I was wondering if Grand Rapids Michigan was part of the US Territory?

Answer:

Yes, eventually. The US Territory of Michigan started on 30 Jun 1805 and ended on 26 Jan 1837 when Michigan was admitted to the Union. At first it just concerned Detroit and the surrounding immediate area. Then the surveyors made this really strange area like from one side of the state to the other but in a weird shape mostly in the middle. Then as years went on the surveyors expanded and from year to year the land considered in the US Territory changed. The Federal Northwest surveyors got to the Grand River, specifically Ada and surrounding area (now Grand Rapids) in 1931 and was incorporated into the US Territory of Michigan.
