Have a friend crank the engine while you look through the oil filler opening on the valve cover with a flashlight. You should see the valve train moving when the engine is cranked. If the valve train does not move, then the timing belt has broken and is no longer turning the camshaft. You can also look through the hole on the side of the timing belt cover on the left (passenger side) of the engine. You may have to remove a plug covering the hole.
