The contractile vacuole is the organelle of a protist that empties the fluid out of the cell, if this stops working, then the cell will eventually expand and burst, the scientific term for this is cytolysis :)

Why does the amoeba die when cyanide is added to it's water?

Because the ameobas contractile vacuole stops working

The contractile vacuole of a paramecium should be active when the paramecium is in what environment?

The contractile vacuole should be active when the paramecium is in water. We learned in 6th grade science that a contractile vacuole pumps water out of the cell to prevent it from getting too much water by osmosis. Without working contractile vacuoles, the cell would get too big and might die!

Out of curiousity in science you did a lab involving freshwater organisms you wonder would a paramecium a protist die faster in saltwater or freshwater if its contractile vacuole stopped working?

nevermind my friend told me

Why does amoeba die when cyanide is added to its water?

Cyanide is a toxic acid or salt and is deadly to just about any carbon based human life form. When Cyanide is added to the water of an Amoeba it stops the contractile vacuole from working, the contractile vacuole is vital in the survival of the Amoeba, because without it the Amoeba would basically just explode with water and die. The contractile vacuole pumps away the excess water. But, when cyanide is added to the water like I said the contractile vacuole will malfunction and not work. This will in the end result in the death of the cell.... I hope that helped!! :)

What would happen if the central vacuole was shut down?

the cell would probably get infected because all the waste is not stored in the vacuole. do not take my word for it, this is my finest guess.

What is the vacuole of a farm?

Sometimes people use analogies to compare cells to different working systems such as farms. The vacuole does the same thing in a cell that a silo does on the farm, it stores things.

What would happen to the paramecium if the water-expelling vesicle stopped working?

The paramecium would eventually die because the paramecium wouldn't get any water and without the water-expelling vesicle the paramecium can't get the water out without getting other bacterias while doing so.

What is the difference betwen a unicellular and a multicellular organism?

A unicellular organism is an organism that has one and only one cell. A multicellular organism is made up of many different cells, all working together.
