When? It isn't illegal or anything yes they can.
Added: Absolutely - and they can demand that you produce identification if they have reason to believe that you may be impersonating one.
No. An undercover officer, in the performance of his duties, is allowed to deceive you.
Edit: Any police officer is allowed to deceive you if investigating a crime. And they are not necessarily required to provide their name and badge number. If they are unformed, their name is generally on their shirt of jacket, so, it's up to the person asking to figure it out. The officer is in no way required to write it down for you or give you a business card.
No. He would probably lie to protect his mission. Undercover guys penetrate looking for evidence and cover up with lies.
If you are referring to "undercover" officers, plainclothes detectives, or "tactical old clothes" officers, they are not lying to anyone because they are not under oath to tell the truth.
Im not 100% but in most cases yes. A police officer will announce he is a police officer and should have his/her badge in clear view. one exception i can think of is if the officer is doing a undercover job. In that case i believe he would only announce himself/herself if they are arresting the subject.
Depends what the lie is. Police officers are not under any oath to tell the truth. They do not have to tell the truth if asked if they are an undercover officer, for example. Dennis Radar, the 'Bind Torture Kill' serial killer, was caught by a lie. In one of his (frequent) letters to the police, Dennis asked if he could be traced, if he sent the next one on a floppy disk. The police replied that it would be ok. Sure enough, Dennis' next package contained a floppy disk, and the hidden metadata embedded in the files gave the police the name and location of the killer. He was duly put under observation, arrested, and charged.
If you man an undercover police officer who is gay, it's probably best not to identify him, because it could put him in danger. If you are using the wrong word, and are really taking about a closeted gay man, the only way to identify him is to make him comfortable enough to tell you.
Tell him.
i am pretty sure it is when you tell a police officer the %$^% off or something
No. But it is a waste of police time and if you aggravate the officer enough he has the authority to arrest you. And . . . you haven't explained the circumstances. If he asked you for your license and registration and you responded by saying you like to eat pizza then you may get yourself in trouble. You have left the circumstances up to the imagination.
The cast of The Tell-Tale Heart - 1971 includes: Edward Binns as Police Officer Alex Cord as The Murderer Dennis Cross as Police Officer Dan Desmond as Police Officer Sam Jaffe as The Old Man
No he doesn't have to tell you. However, if the off-duty officer is interacting with you in his official capacity, he must identify himself at that point
I am interpreting your question to mean, "Can the police notify your probation officer that you are making a complaint against a police officer?" The answer is "yes." The police can make contact with your probation officer at any time, for any reason, and convey any information they care to disclose.
First, go to the police academy and become a police officer. They'll tell you what they want you to do when you go undercover. If you`re seeking to setup a drug deal as a sting operation to get a drug dealer arrested, you had best forget it. Even under those circumstances, an ordinary citizen has no legal authority to buy illegal drugs, and can be charged with drug possession. Answer: Contact your local police station and allow them to set it up ...you may be used as a civil informant to buythe drugs for them
