Since you already filed for unemployment, ask the unemployment office for advice. To continue receiving benefits you must seek work and if called back, the state may say you have to, or that the conditions for returning are unacceptable.

Does filing for unemployment affect you negatively?

Unemployment insurance is tax on the employee's salary, paid by the employer. A type of governmental insurance for workers who lose/laid off their jobs through no fault of their own. There should be no stigma on your credit because of the necessity of use.

If you are fired from your job and you legally and fairly begin to draw unemployment can that employer call you at home and demand that you get off unemployment?

No, the employer cannot call you at home to demand that you get off unemployment. When you begin drawing unemployment, the employer does not pay directly - there is a fund in which employer deposits are being placed and that fund is where the unemployment payment comes out - nothing to do with your ex-employer. If your ex-employer is harassing you; however, you should call the police and BBB.

I'm a recent retiree, can I file for unemployment.?

You should consider filing for Social Security instead of unemployment. You cannot file for unemployment if you left the job on your own. You should have left the job involuntarily to be eligible to apply for Unemployment Insurance in the State of Chicago.

Can you collect unemployment if you live in Michigan and got laid off in Indiana?

According to the Michigan Employment Security Act, you only qualify for unemployment if you quit your job because of an action (or lack thereof) of your employer that a reasonable person would be unable to tolerate. You must first inform your employer of your concern and give them the opportunity to make changes before you quit. You have nothing to lose by filing for unemployment benefits and should do so, providing all pertinent information and documentation that you have, allowing the agency to decide whether you are eligible.

Unemployment benefits have an adverse effect on a citizenship application?

No, Unemployment is an insurance paid by the previous employer and should not have a negative effect in a citizenship application.

Can you collect unemployment benefits in California if you go out on strike?

According to the Employment Development Department, you are only eligible for unemployment if you are unemployed "through no fault of your own." Being on strike is considered a "fault of your own" in most cases even if you personally voted against the strike. However, you should file for unemployment benefits - or contact the unemployment agency - anyway as they will review each case individually. There is no downside to filing unemployment (do know that they will notify your employer) and the worst that can happen is that they will say "no"!

How can you get a job after filing chapter 7?

Federal law prohibits employers from using bankruptcy as a reason for not hiring or discharging an employee. However, the law does not prevent an employer for using the person's questionable credit history as a reason for denying unemployment. Somewhat of a classic Catch-22.

Can you collect unemployment in Texas if you get fired?

You are usually eligible to receive unemployment benefits even if you were fired so long as you were not fired for "gross misconduct," the definition of which is determined by the state unemployment agency and seems, in Texas, to include "work-related misconduct, neglect, or mismanagement" according to a Texas Unemployment website (see "Related Links"). You have nothing to lose by filing for unemployment benefits and should do so right away. Include all pertinent information so the unemployment agency has as much information as possible. They will contact your previous employer and will allow you to dispute anything your employer says, but make sure you are being honest and have documented the situation well.

How long can an employer have a grievance against unemployment benefits in New York before the person begins being paid his or her benefits again?

This should be a matter for the New York Appeals Board to decide on. The unemployment office may continue or discontinue payment base on their investigative findings on reports from both the employee and employer.

How can I actually apply for unemployment benefits on-line?

To obtain unemployment benefits online one needs to be registered on the correct site with a username and password so that one's identity can be verified. One also needs to be a valid claimant of the benefits.

Your job was eliminated and you have now retired can you still collect unemployment?

If you have officially retired - no - you cannot file for unemployment. Besides - when your last employer was notified and found out about it they would undoubtedly contest it, and you would be up the creek without a paddle for filing a false claim.

If you are on medical leave from your job with no pay are you entitled to unemployment?

I don't think so... If you were injured ON THE JOB then you should have been referred for Workman's Compensation (if your employer paid the state for that). I don't have much experience with unemployment, but I'm pretty sure you are eligible for unemployment if you've been released from your job.
