The outcomes of abuse depend on numerous factors and are often not predictable. Heredity (genetics), peers, the other parent, family, teachers, society, and cultural values all play a role.

anger and rebelion are feelings i fostered, growing up with a verbally abusive alcoholic mother. The movie "Throw Mama from the Train" staring Dan Divito best describes my mother, but worse. I never felt severely depressed from mother. She made me a nervous person more than anything, and I'd shake at the site of her. Today I practice the art of living my life,as unaffected as possible from moms horrible alcoholic behavior. Music Headphones are a great tool in tuning out abusers, i just tune them out, and try not to give them any feedback because its a waste of breath and time.

She can expect to have do some serious work to avoid repeating patterns she has witnessed. She will have think carefully when getting involved in intimate relationships -- about what kind of person she wants to get involved with (not simply who she is "drawn to") and how she wants to behave, making deliberate and conscious decisions to change familiar, habitual patterns. Some good books to read are Dance of Anger by Harriet Lerner and Trapped in the Mirror by Elan Golomb. Read all you can about the tactics used by narcissistic and abusive people.
