If oranges are called oranges why aren't bananas called yellows? |
[Edit] |
Bananas called yellow?
Yellow was already taken back in the Western days by a coward, it was given to him by an angry gunslinger wanting a gun fight. It wouldn't have been right to have called him a banana if he turned to run. Orange you glad you asked?
Well, oranges are just called oranges because that's what they were named. I don't believe there is any specific reason. (Except that they're orange). Now, Bananas are not necessarily yellow. Before they are ripe, they are green, and after they usually turn black.
Answer
Because they could think up a better name for them whereas they couldn't for oranges.
