If somebody lied about you and everybody believed the liar but later it was proven that the liar had invented the lies how would other people ever know that you had all along told the truth?

I had this very same thing happen to me and unfortunately, it was my husband who told the lies to our friends and his family. they were so mad at me and I never could understand why until I confronted each one and finally got the true story. I thought that my life was over. All these people hated me because they believed him. I also thought that, since they knew me, they would not be believing I could do what he was saying I did. I realized there was nothing I could do and withdrew just waiting for the next time he would lie behind my back. Over the next 2 years, and counseling to improve on my own state of mind, I realized that if I withdrew and stopped interacting with him, he could not even insinuate I was doing anything wrong. Eventually, all liars will turn on anyone to get attention which he did. He turned on a few of his family members when there was nothing he could turn on me. they finally realized that he was lying and finally admitted that he had lied to him. Almost 18 years of lies to his family and friends and the truth has a way of coming to the surface. His family and I are finally starting to become close again and although, he hates that they even talk to me, he has to see that his bad behavior will no longer be accepted by either me or his family. He has also lost all his friends and because we are all wise to the lying, no longer allow him to get away with it. We talk on a regular basis about what is going on and make sure that nothing is kept secret when it comes to him. the whole deal with his lying was to keep me from talking to his family so I would not tell them about other bad behavior he was doing and to get full attention from them by making himself a victim. He also was trying to make everyone else responsible for his inappropriate behavior. If you know that you are not doing what the other person says, and also know that it is usually to make them feel important, also know that it is not your fault. If you let them affect you, they are getting what they want and it will make you look even worse. Don't step in because this just gives them more fuel to make it your fault and not take responsibility for themselves. When there is no one else to blame, they are forced to look in the mirror and see themselves for the person they really are. If you are able to separate yourself from this person, do so. They are not worth your time or trouble. It took me so long to get over the pain and mistrust he caused and it also affected my health in such a way that I was put on bed rest and medication for my blood pressure. No one is worth hurting yourself over. I hope you get something out of this and you can move on knowing you are more special and important than to be treated like this by anyone.
