If someone wrecks your car do you need to give their name to the insurance company?

Yes, The insurer is entitled by law and under the terms of your agreed insurance contract to a loss report or description of the loss to determine applicable coverage. Failure to do so can waive your rights to any compensation at all and may result in a flat denial of you claim.

You can't just file a claim and then effectively tell the company it's none of their business how the loss occurred. To allow this would result in rampant insurance fraud and higher rates for everyone.
