Because if they were called red than nobody would be able to recognize what kind of a flower they were because there are plenty of other red flowers.

Ok think of this; its Valentines day and you come home with red..... dandalions(I know nothing of other flowers) and you say to your wife " I brought you red flowers for V-day."

Now she thinks you bought her the full bouqet of roses when you actually picked red dandalions off of the common. How happy do you think your wife is actually going to be?
