Yes,

unless the child is enrolling in college in which case they would remain on the plan

or

you enroll the child in Cobra, in which case you would have to pay 100% of the single premium for the child; which will still be cheaper than an individual plan.

Ordinarily, a child is deemed to have reached the age of majority at 18, and absent a voluntary or court-ordered obligation, a parent's duty to support the child terminates at that time. Health insurance coverage is typically part of the support obligation.

That said, many custody/support orders in divorces, whether decided by a judge or negotiated by the parties as part of a marital settlement agreement, provide that one or both parties will contribute to the health insurance of the couple's offspring until he/she completes his/her formal education.

ANSWERFirst, the Age of Majority is not 18 in all states. In Mississippi, it's age 21. In American Samoa, it's age 14.

In New York, regardless of whether the child goes to college, your responsibility runs to age 21. Support varies from state to state on when it ends. see links below.

Can a father paying child support be forced to supply health insurance for the child?

If you are capable of providing health insurance for your child and the other parent can not for what ever reason then yes, you can be required to provide coverage. Child support is supposed to be support to cover the expenses for the child divided between the parents. Clearly the child needs a health insurance. The cost can be a part of the child support or be added. Both parents have a obligation to make sure the child can get care. Usually child support only covers a smaller part of what a child's expenses are, not 50/50. Each state has child support guidelines that take health insurance costs into consideration.

Does child support have to be made if the child is in boarding school and the custodial parent is not paying for the school?

Who is paying for the school? Is it a scholarship or a relative? As long as it is not the person required to pay child support it really doesn't matter. The child still needs clothes, uniforms, health insurance, all sorts of things. Sorry, you don't get out of paying child support based on where the kid goes to school.

Do divorcees have to pay child support until 26 under obamacare?

Obamacare does not discuss child support. I suppose that it's possible that non-custodial parents might be required to pay health insurance until age 26; however, child support, child custody and related issues such as health insurance are determined by the States.

What do you do when the noncustodial parent has stopped paying third-party medical insurance premium for their child?

It depends upon how the court order is worded. If the non-custodial parent is responsible for health insurance for the child, then you would need to go back to court. If he is responsible for paying the medical bills, then you would send him the bills. In any case, he remains on the hook for the child's medical bills.

How long is a parent required to provide health insurance for a child in Missouri?

I believe til the child is 18. You can call your insurance company as coverage could extend to 23 if he/she is in school. * If the insurance is connected with a child support the time when it can be ceased will appear in the terms of the original court order. A minor becomes a legal adult at age 18 in the State of Missouri. There are not laws which would force a parent to continue paying after the age of majority with the exception of a child support or other court order that states otherwise.

Protect Your Child at College with Student Health Insurance?

Do you have a child that is going away to college or is currently a student at a university? If so, your child may no longer be covered under your health insurance policy. Check with your provider when your child turns 18 to see if your child is still covered under your health insurance plan, as many health care providers consider the age of 18 as an adult. If you need to purchase health care coverage for your child, ask the college if they offer student health insurance. Most colleges offer insurance to students at a very reasonable rate.

Does father have to pay child support if child is on his insurance?

United KingdomIn England, insurance is not associated with how much maintainance is required for the child. Our healthcare is covered by the goverment so private insurance is not required.United StatesYes. Each state has child support guidelines. Generally, health insurance and who provides it is figured into the formula that provides the amount the non-custodial parent must pay in child support. They would generally get a credit toward the amount they must pay but providing health insurance would not cancel out child support altogether. Check your state guidelines.

Where can one inform about a good child health insurance?

Information on good child health insurance can be found at two of the most popular insurance providers: Medicare and Medicaid. Both offer full health coverage for children as well as answer any questions about such coverage.

Will child support extend from age 18 to 26 if they are on Obama health plan?

No. Health insurance reform does not deal with child support.

Are you liable for any unpaid copay charges on your 18.5 yr old stepson who lives with his girlfriend?

If you live in a state where an 18 year old is a legal adult then that adult is legally responsible for himself or herself. He or she is responsible for his own debts and liabilities. You are not liable for co-pays on his medical bills. If you are covering your adult child on your health insurance you are responsible to pay the premiums. If you choose not to cover your adult child on your health insurance plan you are not required to keep him or her covered under your plan. He or she is responsible to obtain their own health insurance plan if you choose not to put him on your plan. Most insurance plans will not place an adult child on your insurance plan if he or she is not attending school....and there can be restrictions on the amount of classes a student is taking to qualify to stay on your health insurance plan. Any adult child living in your home you are not legally responsible to provide health insurance, pay his or her bills or medical bills. You are even legally allowed to charge that adult child for expenses incurred by him or her.

Can you cancel my child's health insurance at 18 if my child does not live at home?

The answer - for the time being - is going to depend on where you live and what kind of health insurance you have. It is possible that your health insurance company was within its rights to cancel a dependent child's health insurance at age 18 in these circumstances. However, one of the provisions of health reform which will become effective this year would allow children and young adults to retain health insurance coverage under their parents' health insurance plan until age 26. This isn't scheduled to take effect until September 23, 2010, but you should talk to your health insurance company to find out precisely when you may be able to re-enroll your son or daughter. Some insurers are now allowing earlier enrollments, while in other cases you may be required to wait until the next open-enrollment period following September 23, 2010.

Is the non custodial parent required to pay for child care when they are already paying child support and health insurance?

Yes...a mathematical equation set by your states Child Support Guidelines may be found via the internet. In Florida it is custodial parent- 49% and non-custodial parent- 51% of ALL expenses incurred regarding the children, rent, car payment, insurance, daycare etc...etc...(Obviously the custodial parent doesnt really pay the 49% but has that number as an expense).
