If you are starving yourself to lose weight and start eating again how do you prevent weight gain? |
[Edit] |
it really is that simple! there is no fast track way! your body will feed off itself if you starve it, imagine your body eating its own muscles just so you can spend another miserable day trying not to think about food!
Take it from someone who knows it is not good and frankly just plain stupid.

There's actually a really good book ( i know, i know) that I think would help you.
Faded Denim by Melody Carlson
If you have a library card or access to books, I highly suggest reading it, as it says everything I would need to say. : ) Good luck getting healthy!
Speaking from experience I know why and the consequences of starving. Sadly once you get into the habit of starving yourself and then eat again, this pattern will occur in the future if you do not seek help. The first few days you may feel hungry however these hunger pains seem to disappear. You will eventually become weak however depending on the length of time your starving yourself for, this weakness could lead to collapsing, fainting, etc due to the low glucose levels. No food means no energy. As i understand how some people feel a need to starve themselves to lose weight, I suggest that you drink lots of water to stay hydrated. You will eventually feel to weak to exercise so at this stage please don't push your self. What your doing exactly is loosing water and eventually muscle tissue not fat! If you have decided you want to eat do not binge on high fat, high sugar foods (energy dense foods)instead eat food low GI foods such vegetables fruit. You need to understand that our body needs certain nutrients to function. As starving is not providing the body with these, the consequences can be at present or even the future. The best suggestion when trying to loose weight is eat smaller portions of nutrient dense meals, reduce your fat intake however do not cut it out completely. Nuts contain a good source of unsaturated (healthier) fat. Like I have been told time and time again, its all I moderation.
I've never had a serious eating disorder, but I have crash dieted with friends and on occasion threw up in a delirious attempt to make my body look exactly the way I wanted it. Of course that isn't the answer. Then I heard this and I've found it to be true. When the body recognizes it's not getting enough food it starts to prepare for a starvation mode. (A little thing we got from evolution). Basically it starts making more empty fats cells to make up for the depleting amount. So as your starving, your body is making preparations because it doesn't know your self implementing the starvation. So when you start to eat again your body is extra receptive. Basically your body has made more cells to hold fat and when you start eating again your weight could in turn end up more than what it was when you stopped eating. But that's only if you go back to your usual , unhealthy diet. Like they said before, I'm sure if you started eating just enough calories a day, you wouldn't gain as much. Well that's just a fact I heard and thought it would be interesting for someone who thinks anorexia is the answer to their weight problems. Eat healthy with all the major food groups. That's easy because there are so many diet plans out there. You also need to exercise and I found aerobics and pilates to work best because I have kinda big hips. Well hope that helps! :)
Hi, Now see I know the idea of starving yourself is ridiculous and wont help you lose much weight in the long run, and will also cause serious damage to your body and physical health... But, lately I can't stand how I feel with food inside my stomach. It feels like poison and I just want to throw it up, I never do... So I haven't eaten anything but a piece of toast in the past 3 days... I'm starting to get comfortable with this feeling but I know I'm harming myself. Is there any way to prevent myself from feeling like this?
Well, some of your problem there is that your body is not used to have food in it's system. Try eating small and light foods when you do eat...Such things like toast and soups...I'd advice though to try and stay away from too much fiber if you can, because that can disrupt your system...And it's also best to try and eat healthy foods as you bring yourself back into the cycle of eating everyday.
Now, the only reasont that you aren't feeling good when you eat is really just teh fact that your body is rejecting the uncommon...Like I said, just keep at it, but do it slowly....:-)
