Well, they won't be notified or anything like that, but if they are inquisitive enough about it, they can easily find out. If they take the time to look your name up and do not see any results, they will assume that you either changed your profile settings to private or that you have deactivated your account. If you haven't changed your profile settings so that you do not show up in searches by the public, then they may be able to find out by doing a search when they are not logged into facebook (i.e. a Google search with your name and the word 'facebook'). If you have changed your settings to private, then it will be more difficult for them to know, however, if you have mutual friends, and you don't show up in any of their friends lists, then the only options would be that you have deactivated your account, removed those friends, or blocked them. Also there is the bug and sometimes, probably while Facebook is managing privacy settings, people that blocked you shows up as a blocked people. Basically, with a little deduction they will most likely figure it out.
