I think it depends on the phone company. AT&T, Verizon, and I think T-Mobile for example will not ring if the phone is dead, however I have had some friends with other companies (some outside the US) that I think do ring, because they claim its dead but I still hear a ring.
It will go straight to voicemail if the phone is off.
If a cell phone has call waiting then it will ring for a few times and then go to voicemail, sometimes there will be a busy signal, other times it will take you straight to voicemail. It just depends on if the cell phone has call waiting and how busy their number is. If there are more than one person trying to call a number at the same time you will most likely get a busy signal. If a cell phone is turned off or dead it will go straight to voicemail until it gets turned back. The cell phone will have no record of the phone call in their phone log unless a voicemail was left.
if it went straight to voicemail then her phone was probably off but check it out anyway just to be safe, keep an eye on it
VoIP has voicemail function which allow the caller to leave message if you are not available on phone. You can access voicemail through your phone connected to internet.
Reason why calls are sometimes directed to voicemail: -The called party is not available - with the call divert set up, calls that are not answered after certain number of rings will be directed to voicemail -part of call screening. This is to examine the importance of the call so that no time wasted in answering unwanted calls.
A cellphone does not answer its self. Traditionally if a call goes to voicemail after one ring the phone could be turned off or out of battery. It is possible that the owner of the phone declined the call if they are busy.
you call your cell phone number on your house phone and then when you get to your voicemail then press # if that doesnt work press # and * and then it will say put in ya password and you will be able to check your voice mail on your phone.
You do not need to set up the voicemail in order for the phone to work. However, if you miss a call, the caller will not be able to leave you a message without it being setup.

Best thing to do is to dial voicemail. Then listen to the options that have to do with changing your voicemail greeting options.
It depends... Often you can dial the phone number of the phone owning the voicemail box. When it goes to voicemail, press *. That will usually prompt you for the PIN code to access the mailbox. Some systems will let you dial the voicemail external number. To find that, look in the messaging menu of the phone that owns the account, or in the call history. If that works, you'll probably need to enter * followed by the number of the phone. And then the PIN.
