If you download an album with 12 songs off limewire and then submitted a 12 song album would that still be illegal? |

Online downloading
If you paid for it, you're within the law, if you got it free, then yes it is illegal. In light of the fall of Napster and RIAA's campaign to sue (just about) anyone who hosted or downloaded files, the RIAA went after anyone who downloaded songs without paying. There were a lot of complaints to the RIAA that people were restricted to only buying full albums when they only wanted one or two songs. Now that popular services such as Itunes, rhapsody, and the new pay-per-download napster have come along, according to the RIAA and other trade groups, such as the MPAA and DRMG, there is technically no more excuses for free downloads by anyone. It also does not matter how much you give back to the file sharing community. If you download 12 songs and upload 12 songs, then you could get into even more legal trouble because not only are you downloading copyrighted works, you're DISTRIBUTING copyrighted works. Furthermore, you most likely do not have the license to distribute such works. Back in the day distributing meant you going to your school and passing out CD-R's of your favorite band to people for a charge. That's not the case anymore. RIAA and any other trade group has the legal right to sue anyone who downloads or uploads the digital content they have rights on, SO DOWNLOAD AND UPLOAD AT YOUR OWN RISK!
