There are a number of programs that can recover information from a hard drive. Usually, the only way to TOTALLY erase a hard drive is to put it in a powerful degausser (machine that creates a really really strong magnetic field).

If the hard drive was erased from windows or format then it is still possible to recover it. There are a number of commercial products and companies that can help you.

First, I would go to a shareware site (tucows.com / hotfiles.com / you can find others by doing a google search for "windows shareware") and look under system utilities or disk / drive utilities and you should find something.

If that does not work, do a google search for "hard drive recovery" and you should get a ton of sites that offer products / information on recovering your hard drive.
