If you have suffered from depression, yes it is possible. However, many phases come into peoples lives as they grow older. Raising children, then they leave home and suddenly you are looking at each other as if you were strangers (empty nest syndrome.) You could both be extremely busy with your careers and it's all work and no play (if this is the situation take a well deserved vacation if you can.) Women's peri to menopause can also cause this problem (men have the same thing in a more subdued way ... doctors are now just recognizing this in men .. yes they do have hot flashes) and both woman or man can have the horrible annoying habit of looking back on their lives and feeling like they have not accomplished much. There is also the other side of wanting to be free for the first time in a long while (after working hard, paying bills, raising kids, etc.) and a feeling of discontentment can engulf us making us feel as if we are missing something out there, but we don't quite know what it is.

I hope you fit into one of those and here is what helps:

If it's "empty nest syndrome" it's time to go on a relaxing, but exciting vacation and learn to laugh together again. If you are juggling careers, try and take a break and go on a holiday if you can. If it's peri menopause or menopause go and see your doctor as there is help for many of the symptoms. If you don't fit into any of these catagories and feel you are depressed then see your doctor as there is help for this too.

Ooops, forgot the younger people here. If you are studying hard, drop a couple of subjects (it may take longer, but worth it in the end) and try to have some fun with your friends or if you can afford it go on a mini holiday and "cut loose." Don't take life too seriously.

Good luck Marcy

What are the reasons for missing your period for over three months if your not pregnant Could depression be a side effect of missing your period for so long?

I have the same problem...only I just don't have my period. No depression, stress. I don't know whats wrong, but I suggest you talk to a doctor, I'm making an appointment soon. Other than that, I suppose it could be stress, which could be linked to depression...so I'm assuming stress/depression could be a Cause for missing your period for so long...but I'm not sure if it's a side effect. Try to relax I guess, eat and sleep well and try to find out if depression is the side effect or cause of your lack of mensturation. :]

Does depression from the pill occur right away or could symptoms appear after being on it for a while?

Depression is a side effect of the pill but this usually occurs after long-term use. If you have depression then I would recommend you see your doctor. Changing birth control may relive some of the symptoms within 8 weeks but still speak to your doctor.

Is furosemide in any way related to depression?

Lasix (furosemide) is a diuretic used to lower sodium levels in the blood and consequently to lower blood pressure. I would not expect it to have an effect on depression, assuming that it has not resulted in electrolyte abnormalities which could be confirmed by a simple blood test.
