If you gain up to three pounds off of one meal what should you do? |
Answer
Skipping meals or eating one meal a day does not make you lose weight, in fact, it makes you gain weight.
If you eat healthy and don't eat junk foods, drink 8 glasses of water a day (flushes out the kidneys and fat) and exercise you will lose the weight.
There is no easy way to lose weight. Oprah Winfrey has recently had over-weight people on her program and has used her own trainer to help these people get the weight off. Some of these people were well over 400 lbs! So if they can do it, we can all keep our weight down if we want too bad enough.
Don't forget if you exercise, muscle weighs more, so if you are up a few pounds this does not mean you are fat.
Eat things like salads with chicken/tuna/etc., in it and tomatoes, celery, cucumber sliced up in it as well. This is excellent for a good lunch or even a quick dinner.
Women only need 3 1/2 oz. of meat 3 times a day, and men need 8 oz. of meat 3 times a day. Eat loads of veggies and fruit. Cut out the bread and stay away from as many yeast products as possible. Pasta's are hard on us and make us gain weight. Stay away from sugar. Tea/coffee/pop will all help to make some women retain water even though tea is a good diuretic (making you urinate more.)
Realize also that just before periods you can have "water weight" so ignore it and it will eventually go away. This still happens in peri menopause and menopause.
For one month keep a journal of EVERYTHING you eat. There is not one person I know that isn't shocked at the calories they have unconsciously taken. Keeping the journal will help you see where you are going wrong with your eating habits (and we all have bad ones sometimes.)
If this is not helping it's time to see your doctor and get your thyroid gland checked. Ask for a T3/T4 thyroid test. Many doctors over-look thyroid issues in especially women.
You can do it! Eat healthy, live healthy.
Good luck!

The advice in the above post is good, but if you're talking about one special meal, don't despair. If your scale shows an increase of 3 pounds after one "celebration" meal, perhaps with a few cocktails, it's water weight, not actual fat. It will disappear in a few days, if you just return to your healthy eating habits.
To gain a pound, you need to consume 3500 more calories than you burn. Three pounds would be 10,500 calories, or about the amount in 5 pounds of prime rib, 10 "loaded" baked potatoes, a gallon of salad with bleu cheese dressing, PLUS 4 servings of chocolate mousse.
A wise suggestion is to weigh yourself once per week, not immediately after a heavy meal.
