I got the shot yesterday. I'm not dead. Sure, there havebeen cases where that has happened, but so few that you're more at risk not getting the shot.

Will you die from getting the regular flu shot? Same risk.

Come on.

Get the Swine Flu shot.

Seriously. Now. Go.

For goodness sake, no. This is the last kind of thing that should be going around as a rumor, especially at the time when people who are at greatest risk should be getting a vaccination shot.

The vaccines for flu shots is made from "dead" or weakened virus particles that can not make you sick with the flu. The track record with seasonal flu shots is very good with low numbers of adverse incidents or side effects. Unless you are allergic, it is expected that there will also be little problems with the swine flu vaccinations, since the vaccines will be made like the regular flu vaccine is made which has a very high safety history after decades of use.

In the US, there is also a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved nasal spray mist vaccine. See more information in the related question section below.

In 1976, people had many problems with the swine flu vaccinations, but those were made an entirely different way back then, and there is also some speculation that the medium used for the injection solution was contaminated and that is what caused the problems, not the vaccine itself. In any case, the vaccine for the 2009 pandemic flu will not be the same as that was.

The risk of the influenza is much higher than the risk of any problem from the vaccination.

There have been a few rare cases of deaths that may be linked to the flu shot, usually these are due to an allergic reaction and each year with the seasonal flu, unfortunately a few of these fatal reactions do occur.

Yes you could if the allergy is severe enough and no treatment is immediately available when signs of reaction occur. In most types of vaccines, that is the most common reason for a death following a vaccination. But, that type of severe anaphylactic reaction is still rare.

Some people have allergic reactions to the trace amounts of egg/chicken protein that could be left after purification of the vaccine. The viruses are grown in eggs. However, death is rare due to allergy to eggs, and new guidelines have been issued for the safe vaccination of those with egg Allergies. See the related question below about getting a flu shot if you are allergic to eggs.

If you have a severe allergy to sulfonamides (sulfa drugs) then you should not take the flu vaccines that contain traces of these antibacterial agents. The most common sulfonamides in flu vaccines are neomycin, gentamicin, and polymyxin.

If you have an allergy to any of the ingredients of the vaccines, you should not use them. Here is a list of ingredients in the vaccines formulated for the 2012-2013 flu season:

Afluria:

beta-propiolactone, thimerosol (multi-dose vials only), monobasic sodium phosphate, dibasic sodium phosphate, monobasic potassium phosphate, potassium chloride, calcium chloride, sodium taurodeoxycholate, neomycin sulfate, polymyxin B, egg protein

Fluarix:

sodium deoxycholate, formaldehyde, octoxynol-10 (Triton X-100), α-tocopheryl hydrogen succinate, polysorbate 80 (Tween 80), hydrocortisone, gentamicin sulfate, ovalbumin

Fluvirin:

nonylphenol ethoxylate, thimerosal (multidose vial-trace only in prefilled syringe), polymyxin, neomycin, beta-propiolactone, egg proteins

Flulaval:

thimerosal, α-tocopheryl hydrogen succinate, polysorbate 80, formaldehyde, sodium deoxycholate, ovalbumin

Fluzone: Standard, High-Dose, & Intradermal:

formaldehyde, octylphenol ethoxylate (Triton X-100), sodium phosphate, Gelatin (standard formulation only), thimerosal (multi-dose vial only) , egg protein

FluMist:

ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), monosodium glutamate, hydrolyzed porcine gelatin, arginine, sucrose, dibasic potassium phosphate, monobasic potassium phosphate, gentamicin sulfate, egg protein

Just relax... The Swine Flu is like a normal flu. If you don't have a doctor and you are infected with it, well, you are in some trouble. On the brighter side, we have doctors.

There have been no reported deaths from this shot. Some people get some side affects, but nothing more serious than nausea and muscle aches or fatigue.

Is the Swine Flu shot really a shot?

They don't shoot you, and it isn't a 'shot' of a drink, it's a needle in the arm. In the 2009-2010 flu season there was a mist as well as a shot for the vaccination for swine flu. In the 2010-2011 flu season the vaccine for swine flu protection is included in the one vaccination for the seasonal flu.

Does the swine flu shot help you?

Yes, it's a vaccination that helps you prevent the swine flu infection.

Should you get a Swine Flu vaccination if you got a seasonal flu shot?

Last flu season, 2009-2010, you needed two shots. But this year the seasonal flu shot also protects against swine flu, so, in the US, you only need one flu shot for the 2010-2011 flu season.

What is the vacation of swine flu?

Do you mean vaccination? The swine flu doesn't take vacation.

Has anyone died from the vaccination for swine flu?

No

Where can you get a Swine Flu shot?

In the US in the 2012-2013 flu season, the H1N1/09 swine flu vaccine is included once again in the "regular" trivalent and quadravalent vaccines that have been prepared for the seasonal flu. No separate vaccination is needed.

Is there a antibiotic to stop you getting Swine Flu?

You would not use an antibiotic to stop yourself from getting a disease, you use a vaccination, and yes, there is a vaccination for swine flu.

What are two methods used to administer the H1N1 swine flu vaccination?

Through the nose as a mist or spray and a shot in the arm.

How do you know if you have had Swine Flu?

Unless you were tested when you were ill, there is really no way to know for sure which type of flu you may have had. If you were not tested at the time, to be sure you have immunity to the swine flu, it is advised that you get a vaccination. It will not hurt you if you already had the same flu, and it can prevent another illness if the flu you had was a different strain. For best protection from the flu during the 2009-2010 flu season, get both a swine flu vaccination and a seasonal flu vaccination.

Is it necessary to get the Swine Flu shot every year?

That will only be needed if a new mutation of the swine flu occurs that the current swine flu vaccine isn't able to prevent. In the 2009-2010 flu season in the US two shots were need, the regular seasonal flu shot and the H1N1/09 Swine flu shot. But in the current 2010-2011 flu season in the US, the seasonal flu vaccination contains the vaccine for swine flu in addition to the other varieties of flu that are expected to be circulating. So only one shot is needed this year for protection in the flu season.

What is a good use of swine flu?

A good use of the swine flu virus is to use it in a preventive vaccine so people who get the flu vaccination are safe from suffering the illness. Get your flu vaccination right away for the 2013-2014 flu season!

If you get a swine flu shot will the swine flu disappear in a week?

The swine flu shot is used to prevent the flu, not to treat the flu if you already have it. To treat the flu, antiviral medications are more likely to be prescribed, such as Tamiflu.
