If you get married right out of high school will academic scholarships from very good grades and high test scores be affected? |
There shuld be no negative effect or change in the status of your scholarship award. It would be very unusual for a scholarship to have stipulations regarding this issue. They are based on need, academic achievements, etc. If there were a "question" it would certainly be appealable. And the original scholarship agreement would most likely be validated.
Answer
Scholarships would not be affected, BUT grants and loans would be affected. You would have to re-file FAFSA as an independant and use your and your new spouses financial information instead of your parents. Re-filing might make you a step behind the rest because all the money has been handed out by the time seniors graduate high school and there aren't any funds left. If you're lucky, they might let you keep the money they gave you for the first year but the second year will be affected. Check your state laws before you file FAFSA and talk to your school counselor. Also, I really wouldn't recommend getting married right out of high school... if you're going to be together forever, it's best to wait. 98% of highschool sweethearts break up when one or both of the partners go to college. Wait it out until you have time to grow up and develop into your own sense of self.
